Mix the dry ingredients. Make a well and pour in the wine and oil. Mix well. Form a handful of the dough into a rope. Twist into a circle on cookie sheet and make three to four diagonal cuts evenly spaced around the outside, resulting in a star shape. Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with anise seed (optional) and sugar. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen. | |||
