Sharks & Minnows

Players: 6+
Equipment:  Swimsuits, the deep end of a public or private pool.
Winning Objective:  To be the last Minnow alive

Description:  One person volunteered or was selected to be the Shark and proceeded to the opposite side of the pool from the Minnows.  While standing on the wall out of the water, the Minnows yelled, “Sharks in”, and after the Shark jumped in, or had pushed away from the wall, the minnows got into the water, either by dropping straight in or making a dive in an effort to quickly cross to the opposite side.  To be safe, a Minnow had to cross over and touch the opposite wall, even under water, without a Shark touching them at any time.  If touched, a Minnow became a Shark on the NEXT round, meaning that a Minnow could not get touched by a Shark, and then immediately touch another Minnow in the same round.  When more than one Shark was in the water, a strategy would be for a Shark to race to the Minnow side.  If the Shark is able to touch the Minnow wall before some or all of the Minnows had the sense to dive off, any Minnow still touching the Minnow wall were automatically tagged.  Play proceeds until there is one Minnow left, or the remaining Minnows tie for first place, as they are all eliminated in the same round.  Some people play a more difficult variation to the game, and that is that the Minnow has to be touched on some portion of their body which is out of the water.  This meant the Sharks had to drag the Minnows to the surface before tagging them.
