Peekage

This game was very popular in the neighborhood. It is a sort of reverse version of “Hide and Seek”. In Peekage (a name coined by one of the neighborhood children, Anne Schmitz), all the children except one would stand in the middle of the cul-de-sac in a huddle and count to fifty or 100. In the meantime, the person whose turn it was ran to hide. Since this was a neighborhood game and we often played with as many as 25 or more children, we usually used an area of six to ten front and back yards to make it more challenging. Once the group was done counting, they spread out to look for the hidden one. If you found him you had to quietly hide next to him until the last person had finally found the growing group of hiding children. The last one was usually subjected to some good-natured jeering. The first person to find the one hiding got to hide the next time. | ||
