Kick the Can
(1970's version)
contributed by Ann Mosconi

This game is similar to the traditional game of “Hide and Seek”.  One person counts to a designated number (depending on the size of the playing area) while everyone else hides.  Once he has finished counting, he moves away from the "home base" in the center of an open area where an empty can has been placed on the ground.  He begins looking for the hiding children.  Each time he spots a child, a dash ensues to be the first to reach base.  If the person who is "it" reaches the can first, he puts his foot on it and shouts "one, two, three on Jimmy!" (or whatever the child's name is), and the search continues.  However, if that hider, or any other hider, arrives first, he kicks the can, and everyone gets to come out of hiding.  The child who kicked the can yells "All-ee all-ee in come free" to alert the others.  The first hider to be caught becomes "it" for the next game.
